2016 Sitka Fish Report - report updated 9/1/2016
A history lesson
Most of all. Thank you to all of you who compliment me on the Fish Report - honestly? I Never had a clue how much folks would refer to it and how many have found it on their own. The funny thing? Even people who fish w others refer to it because of the base factual info it provides - it gives you the nuts and bolts of fishing ... It's when I get calls from fisher-people, who tell me who they are fishing with - but check out my site to see " what is really going on". Pretty fun for me!!

How to access history for years 2014, 2013, 2012, 11, 10, '09, '08 & '07 & '06 on our fishing report pages.

** NOTE do not let the "date entered/updated" on each weeks postings throw you.

The reports are updated ONCE daily, and the dates specifically assist me in stacking the weeks in the correct order. Especially given I am posting the current week & a marine forcast for the next week.

I added this Widget (below) it is a Marine Forcast only & is in 'REEL' TIME. pretty nice!

ON THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE IS:
***Making sence of your BOUY REPORT

Each day of each week (check the drop down menu) i post the Marine Forcast and the "catch rate." It's simply a numbers game ~ So Enjoy it as much as I enjoy doing it for you. There are more specifics about the fish report below the widget.
The widget will remain operational, & might be interesting in the winter ~

A HISTORY LESSON ~
1.) When you scroll down on this page you will see previous years & an associated drop down menu for that given year.

2.) The drop down menu will allow you to target a specific week.

3.) On the bottom of the page of any given week (selected from the drop down menu) is a link that takes you back to the main page allowing you to select another week or year to review.

3.) ARCHIVE does not nessesarily mean history only - it allows you access to all weeks posted for the specific year which you are reviewing

Remember: The report is current, and the dates specifically assist me in stacking the weeks in the correct order. Especially when I am posting the current week & a forcast for the next week.

Example of what you'll find here: 2015 is at the top of the page.

Scrolling down you'll see 2014. (until mid-July - I had to focus solely on fish house duties, arrivals, departures, land duties ... I find that now I need more than 3 hours of sleep per night anymore)

:-) My intentions are good anyhow ...

Followed by 2013.

Then you'll see 2012.

Then 2011.

Below that; 2010.

Below that; 2009.

Followed by 2008, 2007

& finally 2006

***Making sence of your BOUY REPORT
Much of the BOUY REPORT is self explanitory

1.) like the direction the winds are coming from.

2.) if the water & the winds are moving in the same direction - it will smooth the seas.

3.) then a tide change - winds still coming from the same direction - water going against the wind - that can cause a chop -

Example:

4.) Winds: WNW 4 to 5 knots * Seas: S 3 feet at 16 sec.
lift up on tip toes - hold for 16 seconds
& lower your heels ... see?

5.) Winds: SE 18 to 24 knots * Seas: SSW 8 feet at 9 sec.
lift up on tip toes (higher and faster though & hold for 9 seconds & then lower your heels quickly ... get it?

Alaskan Reel Affair Charters began in 1995, it was in 2006 That Rob Chambers assisted me in launching the 'fish report'

so, this is what I have noticed over the years (call me crazy) - us people - we like SUNNY - it seems that Salmon fishing always slows a bit when we have the extended gorgeous sunny days like we have had -

Fishing it seems is more active when it is foggy - overcast - rainy - gray skies - NOT SUNNY & BRIGHT.

I mean - I have to wonder - when I have water in my eyes I can't see a darn thing - so how the heck do the fish know? Right?!?!

but hey, what do I know - I'm just the van driver ...
